Verklaring Eurocommissaris Füle over vergadering met leider Turks-Cyprische gemeenschap Eroglu (en)

Met dank overgenomen van Europese Commissie (EC) i, gepubliceerd op dinsdag 22 november 2011.

Today I met the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Dr. Dervis Eroglu. Mr Eroglu shared his views of the last tripartite meeting between himself, the leader of the Greek Cypriot community Mr. Demetris Christofias and the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon i end of October in New York.

I welcomed the efforts of the leaders of both communities and the United Nations to reach a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem. I also reiterated the European Commission's strong support of the settlement talks. Mr Eroglu and I discussed the way ahead after the recent tripartite meeting and the importance of reaching agreement on all internal aspects of a settlement by the next tripartite meeting in January 2012. I underlined that the Turkish Cypriots will be among the main beneficiaries of a settlement as they will be able to enjoy fully the benefits of Cyprus' EU Membership. I called on Mr Eroglu to make all efforts in the talks to reach the goal set by the UN Secretary-General.

Besides the settlement talks we discussed issues related to the aid programme for the Turkish Cypriot community including its continuation as well as issues related to the crossing of persons and goods across the Green Line in Cyprus.
