Expert conference accompanying the Informal Meeting of Ministers for Family and Gender Equality - ‘Mechanisms for reconciling professional and family roles for men and women as a chance for active participation in the labour market’ (20th-21st October 2011, Cracow).
As part of the meetings organised under Poland’s EU Council Presidency, an expert conference is planned on the theme of instruments to reconcile professional and family roles, allowing both men and women to actively participate in the labour market. This conference is a standard meeting organised in the country holding the Presidency and will take place on 20th-21stOctober 2011 at the Auditorium Maximum of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow.
The conference organiser is the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy. To a large degree, the costs of organising the conference will be refunded from European Commission funds.
Principles of the expert conference
The main objective of the meeting is to exchange views on mechanisms for reconciling professional and private/family roles in the fields of gender equality and demographics as well as family and labour-market policy. The conference will be attended by representatives of the European Commission, civil servants from the ministries of EU Member States, independent experts, representatives of European international and non-governmental organisations and representatives of social partners.
The results of a survey carried out pursuant to the recommendations of the Polish Presidency by the European Institute for Gender Equality will be presented, relating to the situation for both women and men in the labour market in terms of reconciling professional and family roles. Conference participants will also be presented with an outline of principles relating to the European Roadmap for Reconciling Gender Roles.
Programme accompanying the conference
The Informal Meeting of Ministers for Family and Gender Equality will take place in the Exhibition Hall of the Jagiellonian University’s Auditorium Maximum on the second day of the conference.
During the conference, the progress made in the field of gender equality is expected to be reviewed and the main challenges facing Member States will be indicated. Aside from this, ministers will be able to exchange the best practices implemented in their Member States.
