The European Commission has on 22 September, 2011, proposed to provide Greece with €2.9 million of financial assistance from the EU Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF).

The money, requested by the Greek authorities, would be used to help 642 workers made redundant by ALDI to find new jobs. The proposal now goes to the European Parliament and the EU's Council of Ministers for approval.

The package of EGF assistance proposed by the Commission includes occupational guidance and job-search assistance, training and re-training, entrepreneurship promotion, contribution to business start-ups, and mobility and job-search allowances.

The total estimated cost of the package is €4.4 million, of which the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund would fund €2.9 million. The EGF assistance would aim to help all the 642 workers made redundant by ALDI.
