Buzek tevreden met EP-instemming met Moldavisch associatieverdrag (en)

The European Parliament approved today by a large majority its recommendation to the Council, the Commission and the EEAS to offer Moldova prospects of joining the EU one day.

President Buzek said:

"Moldova is moving towards its European vocation. Through this vote, the European Parliament recognises Moldova's growing importance in Europe and its significance and commitment to the European Union as a key partner. Moldova's success is important to the EU.

The European Parliament stands by the efforts of Moldovan citizens. Today, we specifically underlined Moldova's EU perspectives. The perspective offered to Moldova by the Council, the Commission and the EEAS would encourage the country to pursue reforms.

I strongly welcome the "more for more" approach. Greater political and financial support should be available for neighbourhood countries which undertake reforms with vigour and determination. Moldova has shown in the last two years its strong commitment to reform.

Moldova has important work ahead, not only in strengthening democracy and the rule of law, but also fighting corruption and tackling the problem of poverty. To achieve those goals, it is necessary to achieve political stability as well as to elect the President.

The European Parliament is encouraging a "people to people" approach. I welcome the European Commission's action plan for visa liberalisation. We also look forward to the start of the negotiations on a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. Free travel and free trade will help Moldovans build a prosperous future.

I welcome plans to re-launch international talks on the Transnistrian conflict settlement.

The European Parliament calls for a more robust and direct EU involvement in the political settlement of the Transnistrian conflict in accordance with the principle of territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova."
