EU feliciteert nieuwe Japanse premier Yoshihiko Noda met benoeming (en)

Met dank overgenomen van Europese Commissie (EC) i, gepubliceerd op dinsdag 30 augustus 2011.

"Let me express my warmest congratulations on your appointment as the new Prime Minister of Japan. I wish you every success in completing the recovery and reconstruction efforts following the earthquake and tsunami which struck East Japan last March. I reaffirm my conviction that Japan will emerge even stronger then before and the European Union stands ready to assist you in these efforts.

The last European Union-Japan Summit which took place on 28 May 2011 set an ambitious agenda for the comprehensive upgrading of the political and economic relations between Japan and the European Union. I look forward to working closely with you in bringing our bilateral relationship to a new start and achieving its full potential.

As global partners who share the same fundamental values and principles, Japan and the European Union have a clear interest in working more closely together on global economic governance, climate change, energy issues and international peace and security.

I look forward to cooperating with you bilaterally and in multilateral fora to jointly address these challenges and to pursue opportunities for a safer and more prosperous world."
