Sociaal Democraten winnen Portugese verkiezingen (en)

European Parliament President, Jerzy Buzek i, has congratulated Passos Coelho, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, on his election victory in Portugal.

President Buzek said:

"I warmly congratulate Mr Coelho. He is an experienced politician and I look forward to working with his government.

Portugal faces difficult challenges on its path to return to economic growth. In Europe, we all need to boost our economies through structural reforms, investment and innovation. I am confident that what is painful now will bear fruit in the future. In a few years, the Portuguese people will be proud of their achievements. I am sure we will be successful together."
