Hongaars voorzitterschap over de kwijting van de 2009 begroting (en)
The Presidency of the Council regrets the European Parliament's decision to postpone the discharge of the Council's 2009 budget, in spite of the considerable efforts of the Hungarian Presidency to set up a reliable, long-term system of cooperation between the European Parliament and the Council on the discharge procedure.
The Presidency still believes that the only reasonable way forward is a complete overhaul of the two institution's cooperation, notably in the discharge procedure. We continue to stand by the proposal made by the Council last September at the Parliament’s request that would give the two institutions mutual oversight over each other's budget, thus ensuring accountability and transparency on a reciprocal basis.
In that spirit, the Presidency remains open for discussion. We hope that the EP will be able to react in substance to the Council’s proposal and will soon nominate a delegation to take the discussions further.
