President Hongarije informeert EU-president over opstelling voorzitterschap ten opzichte van Libië
Viktor Orbán i , Prime Minister of Hungary, which currently holds the Presidency of the EU, informed President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy i in a letter, of the actions the Hungarian Presidency has taken in connection with the Libyan events.
After conducting the necessary consultations, Hungary activated the EU’s Community Mechanism for Civil Protection to evacuate the European citizens trapped in Libya. The Hungarian authorities performed a successful mission at the weekend when they evacuated not only 27 Hungarian but also 66 EU citizens to Budapest.
The Prime Minister also informed the European Council President that Hungary will continue to operate the Embassy in Tripoli, which also represents the European Union. The letter touched on the fact that the UN Security Council’s decision was followed by the record fast adoption of another decision which included provisions on European restrictions and sanctions imposed on Libya.
According to the information given by Viktor Orbán, EU energy ministers agreed that the Libyan situation required strong political actions by the European Union. Naturally, the Hungarian Presidency continued to monitor the events unfolding in the European Union’s Southern Neighbourhood.
