Europarlement bespreekt vluchtelingenproblemen Italië met eurocommissaris Malmström (grensbewaking) (en)

The principle of solidarity should push EU Member States to provide immediate assistance and share the burden with Italy and the other countries affected by an extraordinary flow of immigrants from Northern Africa, said MEPs in a debate with Commissioner Malmström i.

The Commissioner promised exceptional financial assistance to the Italian government and proposed a joint operation by FRONTEX, agency actually criticised by several Members as non-effective. MEPs also stressed the need for the EU to assist Tunisia to ensure social, economic and political development.
