Hongaars Voorzitterschap: Oekraïne vormt onze belangrijkste bondgenoot uit het Oostelijk Partnerschap (en)

“As holder of the EU’s Presidency, Hungary will use all possible means to assist Ukraine in getting closer to the EU and strengthening its relationship with it”, Foreign Minister, János Martonyi, declared after his talk with his Ukrainian counterpart, Kostyantyn Gryshchenko, in Budapest, on 10 February 2011.

“The Presidency gives us a special responsibility”, the head of Hungarian diplomacy said.

“We will promote the execution of the action plan, on visa liberalisation and support with all possible means, to the commercial negotiations between the EU and Ukraine, which aims to create a profound and comprehensive free trade agreement”, Mr Martonyi stressed.

The Hungarian minister pointed out that Ukraine is the most important country, within the Eastern Partnership. “Obviously, we consider Ukraine as our most important Eastern partner”, he said. “The Danube Region Strategy also offers an extra opportunity, to develop and implement common EU-Ukrainian projects”, he added.

“It is clearly in the interest of Hungary and the EU, to reinforce and deepen the relationship between Ukraine and the EU, the Hungarian Foreign Minister emphasised.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister expressed hope that Ukraine will make progress in its negotiations with the EU on free trade and visa liberalisation, during the Hungarian Presidency’s term.
