“Europe has to speed up in the field of telecommunications if it wants to stay competitive with the rest of the world,” said Zsolt Nyitrai, the Minister of State for Telecommunications of the Ministry of National Development, to the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy.

The Minister of State pointed out that the Presidency wishes to promote the development of telecommunications in the EU in compliance with the Commission’s European Digital Agenda, which can greatly contribute to an economic up-turn.

At the hearing, Mr Zsolt Nyitrai added, ”All this will be on the agenda of the first Digital Assembly in Brussels.” According to the Minister of State, the Presidency expects progress particularly in the field of the common frequency policy. Here, the aim is to improve spectrum management efficiency. The Presidency believes that security is an important factor in the field of info-communication, so the Presidency’s key priorities include the modernisation of the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA). Mr Nyitrai announced that the Council will also assess the Commission’s proposals relating to Critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIIP).
