Eurocommissaris voor Uitbreidingsbeleid Füle brengt een bezoek aan Cyprus (en)

Štefan Füle, European Commission for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy i, will pay a one day visit to Cyprus on 14 October 2010 in order to have a series of meetings and attend the opening of the Limnitis/Ye?il?rmak crossing point.

The crossing point at Limnitis/Yesilirmak on 14 October 2010 is one of the confidence building measures between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities that the European Commission supports in Cyprus.

Following the completion of the upgrading of the 5.7 km road between Kato Pyrgos/Asagi Pirgo and Limnitis/Ye?ilirmak in the northwest of the island, the opening of the crossing point will enable further movement of goods and persons.

Speaking prior to his visit, Commissioner Füle said: "The European Union is fully behind confidence building measures like the opening of this crossing point and is proud to have contributed with its financial support to a major landmark of the Cypriot pursuit of peace".

During his visit to Cyprus, Commissioner Füle will meet with Mr. Demetris Christofias, President of the Republic, Mr. Markos Kyprianou i, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Alexander Downer, UN special advisor, Mr. Dervi? Ero?lu, leader of the Turkish Cypriot community. He will also attend the launching of an EU i funded documentary on the Committee on Missing Persons in the presence of families of missing persons.

Commissioner Füle will participate in a roundtable discussion with the representatives of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot business community and will meet the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political party leaders.
