EU en Mexico organiseren eerste gezamelijke conferentie over hoger onderwijs (en)
A conference jointly organised by the European Commission and Mexico discussed how to build stronger links between the EU and Mexico in higher education, in particular through exchanges and the mutual recognition of qualifications. The event brought together 70 participants over three days in Antwerp, Belgium, 20-22 September 2010.
Higher education is a priority in the EU's relations with Mexico and many students, researchers and academics already profit from exchanges. Addressing the conference, the European Commission's Director-General for Education and Culture, Jan Truszczynski, emphasised that this mobility cannot be effective without the recognition of qualifications: "Recognition is linked with trust and exchange of experience on quality assurance systems. Recognition of qualifications and quality assurance are very high on the European higher education modernisation agenda and a growing concern in Mexico. The joint conference was a first essential step to create trust, as a common denominator for reinforced mobility and recognition".
The purpose of this first EU-Mexico conference dedicated to higher education was to promote discussions between European and Mexican experts and policy-makers on how to facilitate and strengthen academic co-operation and the mobility of academics and students between Mexico and the EU.
The conference was part of the "Encuentro de Mexicanistas" marking several anniversaries: 200 years of Mexico's independence and 100 years since its revolution, as well as 50 years since the country established relations with the European Union and 10 years since the Mexico-EU Global Agreement entered into force.
