EU betreurt uitzetten Australische diplomaten door Fiji (en)

The European Union regrets the announcement by Fiji's interim Government on 3 November on the expulsion from Fiji of Australia's High Commissioner and New Zealand's Acting Head of Mission.

This development signals a further deterioration of the relations of Fiji with the international community, undermining progress towards re-engagement and dialogue. By isolating itself, Fiji puts at risk the concerted efforts to bring about the return of rule of law and democracy. The EU appeals to Fiji and all its partners to work together to engage in meaningful dialogue and thus prevent further negative developments.

The EU reiterates its concern about continuing military rule in Fiji and calls on the interim Government to take prompt steps to restore democracy, human rights and the rule of law in line with the commitments made by Fiji under the revised Cotonou Agreement.
