De EU is voorstander van een nieuw model met meerdere belanghebbers voor de coördinatie en het management van het Internet Domain Name System (DNS)
Today the Joint Project Agreement between the U.S. Department of Commerce and ICANN expires and a new phase begins with the release of the "Affirmation of Commitments" (AoC). The EU has continuously taken an active interest in the coordination and management of the Internet Domain Name System (DNS) and therefore welcomes this new approach.
"This is a significant positive move towards a new and more open "working environment" for ICANN and this document provides a good basis for further improvements of ICANN’s transparency and accountability with the full involvement of and cooperation with all stakeholders, public and private players as well as the civil society", comments Swedish Infrastructure Minister Åsa Torstensson.
"This is a step in the right direction. Now all of us need to contribute to the implementation of the provisions of the AoC. A global, resilient and open Internet is a common responsibility. The EU looks forward to a continuous positive dialogue with ICANN, US Authorities and other stakeholders, to ensure an open and transparent Internet for the benefit for all Internet users."
