On 4–5 September, Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt will host the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers, to be held at the Modern Museum and the Swedish Museum of Architecture in Stockholm. An opening press briefing will be held on Thursday 3 September at 16:00 CET.

The press briefing will be held in the Presidency press conference room at the Modern Museum, and will be broadcast live here on se2009.eu. For more information, see the media programme via the link on the right.

The fact that this is an informal ministerial meeting means that no decisions will be made and no final declaration will be presented after the meeting. Instead, the purpose is to enable the foreign ministers to meet more informally to discuss current issues of common interest.

Nor is there any formal agenda for the meeting, but Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt has announced that a number of current issues will be discussed during the two-day meeting on the island of Skeppsholmen. These include the Middle East peace process, the situation in Iran, EU missions in Afghanistan and Pakistan and the role of the EU as a global actor.

On the second day, the foreign ministers of candidate countries Croatia, FYROM (the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) and Turkey will join the meeting for a joint lunch discussion with the 27 EU countries. Candidate countries are countries that have applied for EU membership and whose applications have been officially approved.
