Zweeds voorzitterschap spreekt met VN-gezant Myanmar (en)

Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt and Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson are today meeting the UN Special Envoy for Burma, Ibrahim Gambari.

Mr Gambari has been the UN Special Envoy for Burma since 2005. He also serves as Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General on the International Compact with Iraq. He is in Stockholm to discuss the situation in Burma and Iraq ahead of the opening of the UN General Assembly on 15-30 September.

Mr Gambari represents the UN efforts to bring about a process towards democratic development and national reconciliation in Burma. He has visited Burma on several occasions and held discussions with the leaders of the Burmese regime.

Also participating at the meeting with Carl Bildt will be Piero Fassino, the EU Special Envoy for Burma.
