Borg and Kovács ontmoeten elkaar vóór Zweeds Voorzitterschap (en)
At a meeting today in Stockholm, Swedish Minister for Finance Anders Borg and the EU Commissioner for Taxes and Customs Union, László Kovács i, discussed tax priorities before the forthcoming Swedish EU Presidency.
Among the matters László Kovács and Anders Borg discussed was the Energy Tax Directive. Anders Borg noted that Sweden supported the Commission’s work on the Directive. The issue of a carbon dioxide tax as an instrument for dealing with the problem of climate change was taken up in this connection. László Kovács and Anders Borg agreed on the importance of providing tax incentives for renewable energy sources. For this to be possible, certain technical issues have to be solved and both men hoped that these could be solved during the Swedish Presidency.
Sweden and the EU Commission were also in complete agreement about combating tax avoidance and tax evasion and László Kovács commended the high level of tax compliance in Sweden.
László Kovács stressed the importance of personal contacts between the Commission and Sweden during the Swedish Presidency.
