Europese Commissie benoemt delegatiehoofden voor Bulgarije en Roemenië (en)
The Commission has today launched the procedure to appoint two new Heads of Representation - Mr. Niculae Idu for Romania and Mrs. Zinaida Zlatanova for Bulgaria. The appointments will be finalised after the acceptance of the offer by the candidates and the completion of the required medical check-up.
Representations are the official voice of the European Commission in the Member States. They are responsible for explaining policies of the European Union and making Europe more understandable to people.
They provide information about the EU through recognised outlets such as public libraries, business advice centres and education services.
Their responsibilities also include providing information to the Commission on orientations and trends of public opinion in the country concerned.
As a Director of the European Affairs Directorate at the Council of Ministers Ms. Zlatanova was responsible for Bulgaria's membership negotiations and follow-up over the last six years. In this capacity, she was also involved in the Bulgarian government's communication campaign on the benefits of EU membership.
Mr. Idu has held the position of Director General of the European Institute of Romania since 2001, a research and training institution providing strategic guidelines on European affairs, including impact assesment studies and translation of the EU acquis into Romanian. The institute is also involved in organising public debates and conferences on European topics.
