Verklaring Duistvoorzitterschap over nieuwe regering in Servië (en)

Met dank overgenomen van Raad van de Europese Unie (Raad) i, gepubliceerd op woensdag 16 mei 2007.

The Presidency of the EU welcomes the formation of a new pro-democracy government in Serbia and its approval by the Serbian Parliament on 15 May. The parties in the new government - the Democratic Party (DS), along with the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and New Serbia (NS), which fought the elections on the same list, and the G17 Plus party - have reiterated their desire for reform and their intention to pursue a pro-Europe political agenda. In so doing, they have satisfied one important condition for intensifying relations between the EU and Serbia.

The Presidency welcomes the fact that Prime Minister Kostunica has made cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia one of his government's top five priorities.

Concrete, effective measures in this direction would permit the EU to resume negotiations with Serbia immediately on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement. The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Olli Rehn, has also reaffirmed this offer from the EU at talks with the new government in Belgrade today.
