The EU is shocked by the reports of the attacks in Nalchik yesterday. The exact facts of what happened are still being established, but it is clear that innocent lives were lost.

Nothing justifies acts of terrorism. The problems of the North Caucasus will not be solved by violent means.

The EU offers its sincere condolences to the families of the innocent people who were killed.

Attacks like this will only strengthen our resolve to work together with Russia to combat terrorism, as was made clear at the EU-Russia Summit in London last week. We are also resolved to working with Russia towards a peaceful and sustainable future for the people of the North Caucasus.
