Permanent Council No.562

The EU would like to thank the incumbent Presidency and the OSCE mission in Moldova for the information they supplied with regard to the final registration, on July 1st last, of the four Moldovan schools in Transnistria, which are teaching through the Latin alphabet.

The EU welcomes this positive development and hopes that, as a result of this registration and in the interest of the children, these schools will be able to operate again to a satisfactory level as soon as the school year begins, on September 1st. The EU praises the active role played by the OSCE Mission in Moldova in achieving this result.

The EU understands that consultations will resume in September regarding the curricula taught in these schools. It urges the parties concerned to do their utmost to reach an agreement on this matter.

The Acceding Countries Bulgaria and Romania, the Candidate Countries Turkey and Croatia*, the Country of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidate Albania, as well as Ukraine align themselves with this declaration.
