Voorstanders EU-grondwet verliezen terrein in peilingen (en)

Fewer Danes intend to vote in favour of the new European Constitution, according to a new poll conducted by Ramboll Management.

Published on Monday (11 April) by Danish daily Jyllands-Posten, the polls shows that the yes-side is still in the lead with 30 per cent but this is down from 33 per cent in March.

Twenty-two per cent of Danes say they intend to vote against the EU constitution, while 48 per cent have not yet made up their mind.

Meanwhile, Danish hostility towards Turkish EU membership appears to be on the rise.

According to the Ramboll Management survey, only 19 per cent of Danes are now in favour of Turkish EU membership, while 63 per cent are opposed. This is a dramatic change compared to a previous poll in September last year, in which 31 per cent of Danes were positive about Turkish accession to the bloc and 49 per cent were against.

In a move that much resembles the French anti-constitution campaign, the right-wing Danish Peoples Party has announced plans to combine the two elements - Turkey and the Constitution - in their campaign ahead of the referendum.

"We will combine the two questions because this is what Danes are doing", said party leader Pia Kjærsgaard, according to Jyllands-Posten.

On Sunday, a cross-party centre-left no-campaign was launched. The campaign brings together 12 eurosceptic parties, movements and trade unions ahead of the Danish referendum on the EU constitution, which is scheduled for 27 September.
