EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Europe is not even one month into the Dutch EU Presidency and the next Presidency makes a bid for the headlines by unveiling its logo.

The tiny Duchy of Luxembourg today (23 July) released its logo, which is the result of an open competition run by the Luxembourg authorities.

Around 100 entries were received, according to the Luxembourg government, from 40 graphical designers and advertising companies, before the winning design was chosen - from the Luxembourgish agency "Concept Factory".

The logo is red, white, blue and yellow, representing the colours of Luxembourg (red, white and blue) and of the EU (blue and yellow).

The star in the corner of the logo reflects the star on the EU flag.

The text under the logo - "the Luxembourg presidency of the Council of the European Union" is available in four languages (French, German, English, Luxembourgish).

The last unveiling of a logo - by the Dutch - caused quite a stir with its slogan, "Europe - quite important".

The Luxembourg Presidency begins on 1 January 2005.
