Staying out of the EU is no option, says former prime minister of Hungary Viktor Orban while warning the "EU could become a big disappointment" for Hungary.

In an interview published by Austrian paper, Die Presse, Mr Orban calls for three criteria to be fulfilled. These should be, support for small enterprises, extended credits to farmers and a rise in average incomes in Hungary if enlargement is to become a success.

"I am not anti-EU", Mr Orban says, adding that Hungary has a choice between "beneficial or harmful EU access". He expresses criticism towards the new government for not sufficiently preparing the country ahead of enlargement.
