According to the largest opposition party in Hungary, the centre-right Fidesz party, the governing Hungarian Socialist Party has a guilty conscience as far as conditions for European Union accession are concerned.

Last week Fidesz leader and former Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, spoke of the conditions his party would set before voting for a constitutional amendment needed to join the EU, MTI reports.

Mr Orban stated at his speech that opposition parties had to set clear conditions before agreeing to vote for the constitutional amendment allowing the country to join the EU. A two-thirds majority of votes is needed in the parliament to amend the Hungarian constitution.

The opposition also claims there has been no advance in the preparations for EU integration since the new government took office in spring this year.
