Third high-level conference on migration and asylum

National MPs and MEPs will gather to discuss the state of play of EU migration and asylum policy as well as cooperation with third countries in this field.

The conference, co-organised by the European Parliament and the Slovenian National Assembly, takes place remotely on 10 December from 9:30 to 15:15.

The European Parliament’s President David Sassoli and the President of the Slovenian parliament, Igor Zorčič, and Luís Capoulas Santos, Chair of the EU Committee, on behalf of the President of the Portuguese parliament, will speak at the opening of the event. Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas will deliver a keynote speech.

The New Pact on Migration and Asylum and migration partnerships

During a first session from 10:00 to 11:30, representatives will focus on the external dimension of migration, particularly on cooperation with third countries through migration partnerships. Dr Stanislav Raščan, State Secretary of Slovenia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry will start the discussion.

In a second session, from 13:00 to 14:30, the discussion will focus on the state of play of negotiations on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, including effective border management and compliance with human rights. The debate will be introduced by Dr Božo Predalič, State Secretary of Slovenia’s Interior Ministry.

During the closing ceremony, from 14:45 to 15:15, Presidents Sassoli and Zorčič will deliver concluding remarks.
