Conference on the Future of Europe: 200 European citizens this weekend on the EU in the world and migration
The first sessions of the European Citizens’ Panels are coming to a close - the final group of 200 citizens will meet for the first time in the European Parliament in Strasbourg between 15 and 17 October.
The last first session of the four European Citizens’ Panels will be dedicated to the role of the European Union in the world and to migration. Citizens will discuss objectives and strategies for EU security, defence, trade policy, humanitarian aid and development cooperation, foreign policy and neighbourhood policy and EU enlargement. They will also raise the question of how the EU should address migration.
“I am delighted to see the launch of the final European Citizens’ Panel, successfully completing the first cycle of content debates. Two more cycles will be held before the panels present concrete proposals in December and January" said State Secretary Gašper Dovžan, Co-Chair of the Conference Executive Board. “The role of the European Union in the world and migration are topics that are intensively addressed by European policymakers and are also at the heart of the priorities of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU. We are also keen to hear the expectations of citizens, especially young people, about the kind of Europe they want to live in 10, 20 or 30 years’ time," added State Secretary Dovžan. Citizens can still submit their initiatives and ideas through the multilingual digital platform.
