Romanian Presidency reviewed in plenary
MEPs debated the results of the outgoing Romanian Presidency, following statements by Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă and Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič.
Romania held the presidency of the Council of the EU between 1 January and 30 June this year and focussed on cohesion and common values, security and strengthening Europe as a global player.
Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič congratulated the Romanian Presidency for their excellent work and many achievements, including 90 legislative dossiers closed before the end of the European Parliament’s eighth legislature activity.
Political group leaders acknowledged the progress made in many areas including energy and the environment, the Digital Single Market, internal security as well as the Economic and Monetary Union. Several of them also shared their concerns over the level of political ambition as well as several contradictory actions taken by the Romanian Government.
On 1 July, Romania handed over the rotating Council Presidency to Finland.
