The National Agency for Employment has organized, under the aegis of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the 11th PES Board meeting. The event, which takes place in Bucharest between 6-7June 2019, was opened by Mr. Fons Leroy - Chairman of the Board, Ms. Daniela Barbu, President of the Romanian National Agency for Employment, as Vice-Chairman of the Board and by Mr. Marius Budăi, the Minister of Labour and Social Justice.

“The National Agency for Employment has greatly benefited from its participation to the activities of EU PES network, by implementing, over the past few years, a number of best practices to modernize its activities, such as introducing jobseeker profiling, including long-term unemployed and young NEETs in the categories of persons belonging to the target groups for which employment subsidies are granted, and improving the services for employers“, stated Daniela Barbu, President of the NAE.

The main topics addressed at the PES Board meeting focused on the current state of the bench-learning exercise, the PES strategies in support of an aging workforce, the strategies, learning needs and future activities of the PES, as well as the results from assessing the implementation of the recommendations on long-term unemployment. Moreover, a working group has analyzed the workforce and skills gap within the EU. During the presentations delivered by members of the EU PES Board, the NAE has presented its strategy in support of an aging workforce.

“Romania pays particular attention to the field of employment, being fully aware of the implications it has on the well-being of our society, both at national and European level. The measures promoted and implemented by the Ministry of Labour and Social Justice, through the NAE, facilitate the rapid integration/reintegration of jobseekers into the labour market, in order to meet the high demand for labour by unlocking the potential of the available human resources, including vulnerable groups such as NEETs and long-term unemployed. Thus, the implementation of measures and policies on the labour market supports both the unemployed and the employers, including by projects co-financed from European funds“, stated Marius Budăi, the Minister of Labour and Social Justice.

During the second day of the event, the Romanian National Agency for Employment will present the main activities of the Public Employment Service and the recent developments on the Romanian labour market.

The next meeting of the Board will take place in December 2019, in Finland, the country which will take over the Presidency of the EU Council, from July to December 2019.
