During this important period, when Romania holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, our goal is to make every effort to conclude the key dossiers on the agenda of the European Union.

One of these dossiers is the proposal for a Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market, whose complex negotiation has been ongoing for the last 3 years.

On Friday evening, in Brussels, the Presidency received support from the EU Member States for the new compromise text that was proposed. Romania managed to make an important step towards finalizing an extremely difficult and important dossier for the Digital Single Market, just one month after the Presidency of the Council of the European Union started.

” One of the objectives of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union is to finalize the dossier on the Copyright Directive in the Digital Single Market. Our compromise solution took into account the interests of rights holders, the need to ensure the economic competitiveness of the EU and the access of European citizens to high quality cultural content. Last night, we achieved a positive result and we are committed to ensuring that artists, all content creators and European citizens remain a priority on the agenda, so that they fully benefit of the advantages brought by the Digital Single Market “, said Valer-Daniel Breaz, Minister of Culture and National Identity.

As a follow-up, negotiations with the European Parliament will take place next week in Strasbourg.
