Commission presents proposal to strengthen the mandate of the eu-LISA Agency
The news:
In June 2017, the European Commission will present a legislative proposal to strengthen the mandate of the EU Agency for the operational management of large scale IT systems (eu-LISA). The proposal is part of the Commission's new approach towards achieving the interoperability of EU information systems for security, border and migration management by 2020.
The background:
On 16 May, the European Commission set out a new approach to achieve interoperability of EU information systems for security, border and migration management by 2020. The EU Agency responsible for the management of information systems, eu-LISA, is set to play a crucial role in the technical implementation of this new approach and the development of interoperability solutions for centralised EU information systems. In order to enable eu-LISA to bring this work forward, the Commission committed to presenting a legislative proposal to revise the Agency's mandate in June 2017.
