President Schulz asks the Commission to review its package on completing economic and monetary union

A letter requesting a reconsideration of the package was sent by European Parliament President Martin Schulz i to Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker i, the details of which are below.

Justifying his decision the President said,

"On paper, through numerous declarations, everybody calls for more democratic accountability of the economic governance system we are setting up in the EU. The package from the Commission as it currently stands however has not brought us any closer to this goal. I want to see declarations turned into concrete measures, and the Commission has missed the opportunity for the moment. I therefore ask the Commission to revise its proposals to correct this. Citizens need to know that their directly elected representatives are in control of a process which has a crucial impact on their daily lives."
