EU countries pledge to take in 60,000 migrants

EU states' ministers, at a meeting in Luxembourg Thursday, made voluntary pledges to relocate and resettle 40,000 asylum seekers and 20,000 refugees, a senior EU source said. The informal agreement, which remains to be fleshed out, comes after states rejected a European Commission proposal for mandatory quotas.
