Discussions on reducing the number of serious injuries and deaths on European roads
On 21-23 April in Jūrmala, several events will bring together experts from the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL) to discuss road traffic safety issues.
On 21 April, at the TISPOL road traffic seminar, participants will share examples of best practice from the EU Members States’ traffic police forces and set out further TISPOL action plans and priorities. The road traffic seminar is part of the STRIDER Project (Solutions to Reduce Serious Injuries and Death on European Roads) whose aim is to reduce the number of people seriously injured and killed on European roads.
On 22-23 April, the TISPOL Council and Operational Working Group will analyse the results of the first pan-European speed enforcement marathon, assess its effectiveness and bring forward proposals for further such activities at European level.
The 24-hour marathon will start at 06:00 on 16 April in most of the EU Member States. During the marathon, police officers will conduct speed checks on the roads. The aim is to encourage drivers to think about the driving speeds they choose, and whether they are safe for themselves and for other road users.
Seminar participants and the media will also have the opportunity to visit an exhibition about past and present technical equipment used by the Latvian road police.
