The high-level presidential conference on equal opportunities, with the title "Gender Equality in Europe: Unfinished Business? - Taking stock 20 years after the Beijing Platform for Action", is held on 23 and 24 October in Rome, during the six-month Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The event is organised at the Farnesina, headquarters of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in the Sala delle Conferenze Internazionali.
The conference, organised by the Department for Equal Opportunities of the Presidency of the Italian Council of Ministers in collaboration with the European Commission, is an opportunity for the different stakeholders to discuss issues related to the Beijing Platform for Action and the agenda for women's empowerment, which was approved in 1995 during the Fourth World Conference on Women.
The conference is attended by Italian and European politicians, experts and academics of national, European and international repute as well as influential members of civil society organisations; it is aimed at providing a general overview of the current situation and identifying progress, shortcomings and future challenges in the area of equal opportunities.
