New Head of European Commission Regional Office in Munich

The European Commission has appointed Mr Joachim Menze as Head of its Regional Office in Munich covering both Bavaria and Baden Württemberg.

Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič said: " I am very pleased that we were able to find such a strong candidate for this important post. Mr Menze brings a wealth of experience to the role, which will help the Office in Munich not just to fulfil its role in communicating with citizens and the media, but also to build on the solid relations between the European Commission and the Governments and Parliaments of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg."

After receiving his First and Second State Exam in Law, Mr Menze practised law in a private law firm in Munich. His career with the European institutions started at the Competition Directorate-General of the European Commission in 1993. From there, Mr Menze moved to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London. A few years later he returned to Brussels and worked for the European Anti-Fraud Office for four years.

Since 2004, Mr Menze has been with the European Maritime Safety Agency, first as Legal Adviser and then as Head of Unit of Legal and Financial Affairs.
