Expertbijeenkomst in Vilnius over het reguleren van traditionele kruidengeneesmiddelen in de EU (en)

On 10-11 December, an informal session of the European Medicines Agency Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products will take place in Vilnius. The session will focus on the issues of regulation and harmonization of herbal medicinal products. This session is one of the events of the Lithuanian Presidency.

The session’s agenda includes reports on the Committee’s activities and outlooks, the experience of EU countries regarding the transposition of the 2004/24/EC Directive on traditional herbal medicinal products into national law (the process was started ten years ago), and changes in the regulation of herbal medicinal products. During the session, the most important issues of herbal medicinal products’ use will be analysed and the latest toxicological research data will be presented.

The research of Lithuanian scientific institutions in the field of herbs will be presented as well.

The session, which will last two days, will cover the safety of herbal medicinal products, local peculiarities of traditional herbal medicinal products’ use, and their importance for harmonization in EU countries. Experts from Hungary, the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Denmark, Poland, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Germany, Austria, Finland, Estonia, and Lithuania are expected.

The session’s participants will visit Vilnius University's Herbarium and see a XIX century unique collection of herbs.
