The implementation of the Social Investment Package (SIP), giving priority to social investment and the modernisation of the welfare state, was the main focus of discussions during the Third Annual Convention of the Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion.

The Convention took place on 26 and 27 November 2013 and gathered around 700 participants from 38 countries, including representatives from Members States and candidate countries, regional and local authorities, NGOs, service providers, academics and a wide variety of actors active in the fight against poverty and social exclusion.

Participants took stock of recent developments made in policy development and the poverty target and discussed ways how to address the increasing disparities and inequalities in Europe with concrete actions and initiatives.
