Statement by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton i on the attack on the Al-Mazraa mosque, Syria
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission issued the following statement today:
"I strongly condemn the suicide bombing at the Al-Mazraa mosque in Damascus on the evening of 21 March, which killed a large number of innocent civilians. I express my deepest condolences and solidarity with the families of the victims of this heinous attack.
I am appalled by the deteriorating situation in Syria and the unacceptable level of violence, which continues to cause suffering to millions of Syrians. The EU has repeatedly condemned all attacks, especially when indiscriminately targeting civilians. I call once more on all parties to engage in talks leading to a political solution to the conflict as promoted by the UN/League of Arab States Joint Special Representative Lakhdar Brahimi."
