Eurocommissarissen Ashton en Füle zeer verheugd met nieuwe Tunesische regering (en)
EUROPEAN UNION
Brussels, 13 March 2013 A
Joint statement by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton i
and Commissioner Stefan Füle i on the new Tunisian
government
Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, and Stefan Fiile, Commissioner responsible for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, today made the following statement:
"We welcome the vote of confidence in the new government led by AH Larayedh, which took place on Wednesday 13 March at the National Constituent Assembly of the Republic of Tunisia. This vote was the awaited response to the political crisis sparked by the assassination of Chokri Belaid on 6 February 2013. It demonstrates that Tunisia's transitional institutions are working as they should.
We take this opportunity to reaffirm Europe's support for all political, economic and civil society groups which wish to see the transition to democracy realised. We encourage them to work in a spirit of dialogue and mutual respect, and maintain their momentum when preparing for the next political milestones - namely completion and approval of a new constitution, and the organisation of elections - and working to revive the Tunisian economy. "
