Statement by the Spokesperson of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton i on the bombings in Damascus

The spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, issued the following statement today:

"The High Representative condemns the recent bombings in downtown Damascus. Nothing can justify an act of such brutality that killed so many people, mostly civilians including children. The High Representative expresses her sympathy with the families of the victims.

The High Representative reiterates the EU's standing condemnation of any attacks and other forms of violence that affect the civilian population. A credible political process must end this terrible bloodshed."
