Roemeens lucht- en treinverkeer ondersteund door EU-project (en)
The European Union will support with €1 million from the TEN-T Programme a series of studies aimed at creating an intermodal transport platform at the Cluj-Napoca international airport in Romania.
The project, which was selected for funding under the 2011 TEN-T Annual Call, concerns the realisation of specific studies concerning a completely new intermodal transport node at the Cluj-Napoca airport allowing passenger and freight operations to be switched seamlessly from road to rail and air.
One of the main obstacles to the realisation of the platform is that the main railway line is 4 km from the airport. The studies will hence assess the best way to build this missing section of railway and how to integrate it with the airport infrastructure.
The project will be managed by the Trans-European Transport Network Executive Agency and is set to be completed by November 2014.
