The EU Heads of State or Government will meet in Brussels on 22 and 23 November at a special European Council meeting, with the aim of agreeing on the next Multiannual Financial Framework for the programming period 2014-2020.

Undoubtedly, reaching a political agreement on the budget of the EU for the next 7 years is one of the most important issues on the agenda of the European Union and one of the top priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.

President Demetris Christofias states:

“We need a strong budget for the EU, which will provide us with the necessary tools in order to tackle successfully the pressing problems that Europe is facing. I am confident that all partners and stakeholders realize that the EU has to have a growth-generating budget and that at the EU summit everyone shows the necessary political will and flexibility”.
