PERMANENT REPRESENTATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF HUNGARY TO THE EUROPEAN UNION

PRESS RELEASE

As foreseen by the Prague Declaration from 2009 an Eastern Partnership i Summit is due to be organized in 2011. In light of the fact that a number of important international events will also take place at the originally planned dates, the Hungarian Presidency i and the incoming Polish Presidency have, in consultation with the President of the European Council, initiated to re-schedule the Eastern Partnership summit for the second half of 2011 in Poland. The reasons for the change of date and venue are purely logistical.

The Hungarian Presidency reiterates the importance it attaches to the Eastern Partnership and is determined to continue its preparations in co-ordination with the incoming Polish Presidency, the President of the European Council, and the European Commission, to ensure a successful and substantial summit meeting and a reinforced commitment to the goals and values of the Eastern Partnership. The incoming Polish Presidency expressed its readiness to include this Summit it in its Presidency programme and to cooperate closely with the Hungarian Presidency in order to ensure that the results of the preparations will be taken into account as much as possible.
