Champs-Elysées in de Europese kleuren (en)
From 20 November until the end of December, the Champs-Elysées and its Christmas market will be paying tribute to Europe.
The actress Marion Cotillard will switch on the traditional Christmas lights on the Champs-Elysées in Paris on Wednesday 19 November. This year, tribute will be paid to Europe and the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union with garlands in hues of blue. The next day, on Thursday 20 November, a big Christmas market will be set up on the avenue.
415 trees on the avenue dubbed ‘the most beautiful avenue in the world’ will be festooned with garlands for over 2 km. Several million points of light will decorate the artery between the Arc de Triomphe and Place de la Concorde. Like last year, these will be energy efficient and the energy bill will be 70% less than in the previous years.
The next day, on Thursday 20 November, 90 white wooden huts decorated with blue LEDs, open from 10:00 to 20:00 every day, will be set up all along the avenue. This will be another celebration of Europe, where the public can find products from around twenty countries of the European Union.
Special entertainment will be provided for children, including the opportunity to visit Father Christmas in his hut.
The Christmas market will be on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées until 31 December.
