EU-werkoverleg over territoriale cohesie en stedelijke ontwikkeling (en)

Met dank overgenomen van Sloveens voorzitterschap Europese Unie 1e helft 2008 i, gepubliceerd op dinsdag 18 maart 2008.

An EU working meeting on territorial cohesion and urban development is to be held in Brdo today and tomorrow (18 and 19 March). On day one, the meeting of the Network of Territorial Cohesion related Contact Points will be held, including presentations and a discussion on the First Action Programme for the implementation of the EU Territorial Agenda and individual activities under that programme. Some of important activities in this area, on which Slovenia as the presiding country is focusing, are the promotion of Action Programme implementation, coordination of related activities, monitoring and reporting on implementation, as well as dissemination of information and awareness raising.

The main topic of day two will be urban development. During the Urban Development Group meeting, activities for the implementation of the Leipzig Charter on Sustainable European Cities will be presented. Due to the strong impact of the Green Paper on Adaptation to Climate Change, and in accordance with the priority agenda of the EU Slovenian Presidency, Slovenia would like to encourage a discussion on the contribution of urban planning to addressing the challenges of climate change and ensuring greater energy efficiency.

The discussion will also be devoted to ensuring the coordinated implementation of both documents, which is a prerequisite for achieving synergistic spatial planning and urban development effects.

The conclusions of the meeting will serve as the basis for drafting documents for the meeting of EU Directors General on Territorial Cohesion and Urban Development to be held in May this year in Brdo.
