Na nieuwe uitbraak varkenspest in Noordrhein-Westfalen: extra maatregelen (en)

Following a new outbreak of classical swine fever on a farm in the municipality of Borken, the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health today backed a Commission proposal to suspend the movement of all pigs and impose precautionary measures in the "Regierungs-bezirke" Arnsberg, Münster and Düsseldorf, in North-Rhine Westphalia. The proposal was backed by an extraordinary meeting of the Standing Committee for the Food Chain and Animal Health, which was convened in the margins of a scheduled meeting of Chief Veterinary Officers.

In addition to a complete standstill of at least 10 days for the movement of all pigs in the "Regierungsbezirke" Arnsberg, Münster and Düsseldorf in North Rhine-Westphalia, the preventive measures laid down in Directive 2001/89/EC are also being applied. A 3 km protection zone has been established around the outbreak area, and disease control measures, including culling and disinfection, are being applied by the German authorities in this zone. The movement restrictions will remain in place for 10 days, subject to review.

This new situation will not change the previously agreed measures for the other "Bundesländer" in Germany, as the territories to which today's Decision applies have already been subject to stringent movement restrictions and controls for several weeks due to previous outbreaks of the disease.
