Mijailo Mijailovic, a 25-year-old Swede of Yugoslavian origin, confessed yesterday (6 January) that he murdered Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh.
However, according to his defence lawyer Peter Althin the murder was not politically motivated
The confession came when a new interrogation of the suspect was held on the basis of 1,028 pages of evidence provided by Swedish police.
After an hour of questioning, Mr Mijailovic confessed to the crime.
Anna Lindh, a popular Swedish politician and mother of two was stabbed in a Stockholm department on 10 September and died in hospital the following day.
Her death shocked the Swedish nation and reminded many of the still-unsolved murder of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme in 1986.
The tragic events occured only four days before the crucial euro referendum, in which she was to play a main role advocating a yes-vote.
