Statement by President von der Leyen with President Sandu on a support package for Moldova

Good afternoon,

I am very happy to welcome President Maia Sandu. We have had intensive discussions in recent weeks, in particular about the gas supply crisis that Moldova is facing. I have announced an emergency package, to step up our support to Moldova. And I am very glad that Commissioner Várhelyi and the Moldovan Foreign Minister are signing this package today. We are providing EUR 60 million to reduce the impact of rising gas prices on the most vulnerable people in Moldova. I also look forward to our discussion, this afternoon, with our friends at the Eastern Partnership Summit. We will address important topics, from fighting COVID-19 to the geopolitical situation in the region and our future agenda.
